Super Bawl

Sunday, February 4, 2007

My mind wanders back to the last five games of the 1997 season, when Bears and Colts were the primary contenders in the Manning Derby. Chicago had the same record and held the tie breaker too, if my memory serves me right. But then Wanny’s Bears won thrice and drafted Curtis Enis. The year after, again Bears won enough late in the season to avoid drafting Chicago’s own Donovan McNabb.

It wasn’t enough to suffer through the mediocrity of Jim Harbaugh, Erik Kramer and Jim Miller. And the horror show of Rick Mirer, Cade McCnown, and Jonathan Quinn.

Today, we had to watch the bad-awful Rex fumble us out of a Super Bowl. Bad pun and all, it indeed was gross.

If only we hadn’t won that fourth game in 1997.

If only we could have drafted Payton in 1998.
