Instead of Furloughs

I hear that my union has decided to negotiate with CSU over employee furloughs.
Even as I contemplate an imminent 10.75% pay cut, I wonder: could I get a job at the Citigroup, where apparently base salaries may go up by as much as 50%.

Lookin for a new name

Oops. Deleted the previous post, along with Sepoy’s comment by mistake. Anyways, it said, i think:
Texas Legislator, Rep. Betty Brown wants mykind to find a new name.

Brown suggested that Asian-Americans should find a way to make their names more accessible.

A National Honor Museum?

There has been much breast beating over the auctioning of Gandhi’s eyeglasses and other personal belongings. Now that our national honor has been restored by Vijay Mallya, the pride of Bangalore, I am left with this image of Gandhi’s eyeglasses staring at Tippu Sultan’s sword!
Actually, I have a suggestion for Dr. Mallya. Maybe he could [...]

Why not an Indian Institute of Humanities?

Like all good advisors, Prof. Sheldon Pollock is looking out for his students and hence strongly advocates the creation of an Indian Institute of Humanities!
Seriously though, this is a must read OPED in The Hindu from Pollock on the irony of endowing classical language status to Kannada and Telugu even as scholars who can read [...]
