So after procrastinating for several months, I have finally gotten into the act. Of writing in Kannada, I mean. I am hoping this would be a regular commentary feature.
If you use Safari or IE Firefox, you may have trouble with the Kannada text. Safari, you could play around and make adjustments but I am not so sure about IE Firefox. IE shouldn’t present any problems at all.
And now on to the one more thing that I wrote about in my rant on Kannada writer and the President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Chandrashekar Patil (Champa).
Champa wants Kannadigas to emulate Raj Thackarey and follow the Shiv Sena model to protect Kannada. While making this argument, he also called on the outsiders to follow the ‘law of Kannada soil’. Now I am an educated man but I do not know where this ‘law of Kannada soil’ is codified.
Such talk is not only counter productive and self alienating, any politics based on it would be self defeating.
I would rather have Champa write his sharp, sarcastic poems, which actually would make Kannada worthy of being protected. If only that Champa were to turn to this present day parody as a subject matter for his poetry, it would be so much fun.
