Good link...But I don't agree with his "One consequence of the State’s sponsorship of such public rituals has been the people’s alienation from them. " comment. Look at Dasara, isn't it still as popular as it ever was ?

RK,

I completely agree that Rajkumar died quite young (Especially with his healthy habits adnd all that).

What I don't understand is the fact that Rajkumar seems to be the ONLY one missed during Suvrana Karnataka celebrations. Everyone from Kumaraswamy to RK miss him. What about the rest ? Is Kannada just Rajkumar ? My 2 paise :)

[...] Land of Lime repeats an important question. Fifty years ago, Karnataka (then still known by its old name, Mysore) came into existence. Golden jubilee celebrations began yesterday in Bangalore and allover Karnataka, but a nagging feeling that we probably are clueless about the challenges facing us, Kannadigas, never leaves me. I want to spend the next several weeks and months writing about these challenges. Perhaps, the time has come for us to ask again the B M Shri asked nearly hundred years ago: what is Kannada Kattuva Kelasa (task of constructive work) for our age? […] [...]
