Ah, Togo PM at the World Cup

For all the discussion about Iranian President Ahmadinejad showing up in Germany to watch Iran play whoever, and then for all the festive reception he was going to receive from Neo Nazis and such people, here is a story that warms my heart and show why there is still hope for us non-European, non-western, non-rational people.

The Prime Minister of Togo is rushing to Germany to resolve a pay dispute.

“We will find a solution. It is a question of negotiations,” the Togolese team’s technical director Camelio Akoussah said. “Our prime minister will come tomorrow.”

Togo’s players had asked for €155,000 (£105,000) each to play in the finals plus an additional €30,000 each per win and €15,000 per draw.

In the meanwhile, I am waiting for the day Tony Blair will rush someplace to resolve Beckham’s shenanigans. Bonuses are never a problem for free-marketeers, whereas Togo players have their moment in the sun only for a couple of days, now.

Guys, make them count.
