World Cup notes - 4

France and Brazil were both unimpressive today.

France was also unlucky as well, as it would be the case with any team on a downward spiral for a long time. They did play with some rhythm but the million dollar question is why isn’t David Trezeguet not playing? It was also pretty depressing to watch Zidane struggle. If France do not progress to the second round, then this would be the last sighting of the great man on a soccer pitch. What a sad end would that be to a great career! When he was substituted, on his way out Zidane didn’t even glance at Domenech as he threw his captain’s arm band in disgust. But losing Zidane for the next game might be a blessing in disguise, if French coach Domenech lets Henry and his buddies run against Togo.

Unlike France, Brazil were lucky. The refs are kinder. Ball rolls kindly. Ronalda though appears to be a monumental waste of space. He seems to be still fine with the ball at his feet but his runs without the ball are ineffective and he is always a step slower.

A rare day when the struggle of the mighty could affect one. A little.
